Andamooka Matrix opals are a type of opal which can only be found in Andamooka, South Australia. The natural colour of the stone containing the opal is light. In order to give the body tone a darker colour the stone is treated with some sugar dissolved in water. The result of this natural treatment is that the colours of the opal are emphasised.
